2019: A new painting by Will Johnstone

With climate change, and argument, within sight of cultures once established and now gone, with the recent discovery of fossils from "The Day The Dinosaurs Died", it is important for us to look at the potentially catastrophic collapses of environments, of ecosystems, of species, of complex and established civilizations, and then consider the potential impacts upon ourselves. We are not immune.

This painting is my interpretive vision of a possible tomorrow: parched and barren lands descending from the mountains, the only remains of verdure encapsulated in impenetrable encasements, our efforts at community and civic construction crumbling into a tell, the overlapping intersections of the universes offering possible alternatives, perhaps continuation, perhaps new starts, perhaps only ...

Acrylic on stretched canvas, 72" x 24". Santa Fe, New Mexico.
